How did this report (’ware PDF!) manage to come out in 2001 without attracting my attention?
I mean, I knew about the project; I even took the survey, though my results were not aggregated because not enough of my compatriots did. But I totally missed the report, and I think it’s required reading for anyone engaged in Ph.D study, on any side of the fence.

Most striking are the gaps in information that students have at all stages of the process. This suggests that students are not asking important questions at key stages, and program administrators are not providing essential information as a matter of course.
