Not this wench
I should mention for Nichole’s sake that I have actually seen an issue of the fabled Journal of Books and Wenches. It is, in fact, a rather piratical anonymous SLIS humor-zine.
Rumor, I am told, hath it that I am responsible for the said journal. Rumor is mistaken.
I can see how rumor got started; the rhetorical style and sense of humor are not entirely unlike mine. And “Malachi Bowles,” like me, is smart enough to keep such an endeavor under wraps. I found the Journal issue I saw entirely inoffensive, but one simply never knows what a faculty member will take offense at. (I can attest, Mr./Ms. Bowles, that Greg Downey chortled aloud at your characterization of his dissertation. No troubles from that quarter, at least.)
Really, though, it’s obvious on close observation that the Journal isn’t mine. Whoever’s doing it has a vastly better sense of visual design than I’ve ever had. Quite an impressive effort, I thought. Just the production (never mind the design) would take more spare time than I have these days, for that matter.
I salute Malachi Bowles’s audacity and ’leet production skillz. May the Journal of Books and Wenches fly a prosperous flag!
