Ex Libris
Well, there went one potentially quite stunning cataloguing paper. I’m still going to finish it, because it’s far and away too late to start another one, but the fact is, I been scooped.
We had the Ex Libris cataloguing module demoed for us in class today, and I gotta say, it is Teh Slick when it comes to error-correction. Excellent validation routines, smart auto-fix and auto-input tricks, batch as well as individual-record processing, local configuration and scripting, the whole nine yards.
(No spellchecker. That’s about the only thing I didn’t see that I’d want.)
I can’t imagine why any original cataloguer given a choice would prefer Voyager’s interface over Ex Libris. Truly can’t imagine.
Configuring that sucker, however, has got to be sixteen different kinds of headache. I still have a secret hankering to be a systems librarian, but I’m also aware that it would send my profanity quotient soaring.
