Gimme a secretary

It’s official. I want a secretary now. And don’t give me any of that “administrative assistant” guff—I temped as one far too long for that. The word is “secretary.” And I want one.

The closest I’m going to get, I fear, is politely shoving as much of the clerical part of group projects off on other people as I can conveniently manage. I’ll happily dig into the intellectual parts of the assignment; just don’t ask me to do the bloody handouts and PowerPoint. Not this semester.

Because, yikes, have I got a lot to do. And I haven’t even been to my third class yet.

I am not, in fact, complaining. I only complain about pointless busywork, and I haven’t seen any of that. (Even the PowerPoint makes a fair amount of sense—we have to whomp up the kind of presentation that one makes to the stakeholders on a systems-analysis project, and yeah, that’ll usually involve PowerPoint.)

Moreover, I can manage; the load always looks heaviest right after the syllabi arrive, and somehow I muddle through. But juggling this plus the job hunt plus ACRL plus Digital Content Group plus my current TAG client plus something else that’s just a couple of meetings away from being real… it’s going to be an interesting few months.
