Boring

Sorry, guys, I’m just boring lately.

Partly I’m betwixt and between because the official job paperwork hasn’t arrived yet (it’s due here tomorrow or Friday or thereabouts) and I don’t like making Big Irrevocable Decisions until that’s squared away. I know it’s ridiculous to be this paranoid, but if I’m going to get this wonderful prize snatched away (which I dearly hope and believe I won’t), I’m not going to make it any worse by, say, buying one-way airline tickets to Perdóndaris.

So I’ve mostly been decluttering and taking care of minor matters like airline-approved cat carriers. I did pitch out an entire file drawer of photocopied Hispanic philology, which felt wonderful—all the more wonderful when a bunch of nastygrams from the Department from Hell got chucked too. (Whew. I’d forgotten how really very nasty those nastygrams got. Those people treated graduate students with all the courtesy and consideration one offers a mold infestation. And before you say “no, that was just how they treated you, Dorothea,” some of the nastygrams were department-wide broadcasts.)

I also found without difficulty the documents that indicate that we do, in fact, own this house. Fine things to find, when one is to meet with prospective real-estate agents today and tomorrow.

I’ve gotten an offer on my laser printer/copier, but there remains some negotiation to be done (I’m not sure it meets the offerer’s needs). No offers on anything else, so it’ll probably all go up on Freecycle in the next week or so. Oh, and anybody local want a potted, reasonably healthy peace lily? I don’t see how we can possibly transport it.
