Settled in

Aside from a few small boxes of incidentals, we’ve emptied the last box. The place actually starts to feel livable, if a bit smaller than ideal.

I’m a regular on the morning bus now, and I no longer have to watch eagle-eyed for my stop on the way home. We’ve tried out a few local restaurants and found ones we liked.

We’re back in the land of the broadband at last. Verizon took two weeks to hook us up, and another week to tell us that the hookup was pointless. Cox was out here in two days, and no problems. It’s more expensive, but there’s also no lock-in; we’ll cope.

We’ve opened another bank account, and once my first paycheck gets direct-deposited in the old one (which had better be Tuesday; the Salo finances are in sad, sad shape just now), I’m dumping Apple Federal like a bad boyfriend. I put in the change to my direct-deposit Friday, but I’m not sure it’ll take quickly enough to hit the new account.

Our bat guest is around so regularly that we really ought to charge him rent. I have named him Mr. Batley, after a character in Austen who similarly hangs around in a more-or-less inoffensive fashion. (For all I know he is actually Miss Batley, but figuring out bat gender isn’t a skill of mine.) The cats don’t pay him any mind; the birds at the feeder give a better show.

This weekend? I’m trying to relax, for the first weekend in… several.

The world, however, has other ideas. I just got my bill for webhosting, and since I’m disgusted at how AffordableHost has gone downhill since being bought out, I’m moving hosts. Expect the usual sorts of disruption and mayhem.
